Overview
A ruleset is a collection of settings that your team can reuse across sequences. It controls enrollment eligibility, exclusions, and task assignment, along with email verification, open tracking, and opt-out messages. Use a shared ruleset for sequences that follow the same outreach rules. For example, your prospecting sequences might exclude customers and prevent people from receiving two sequences at once. A separate customer follow-up ruleset can use different exclusions while keeping the same task assignment settings. Each sequence uses one ruleset. Editing that ruleset affects the sequences that use it, so review its Used In count before changing shared settings.Create and apply a ruleset
1
Create the ruleset
Open Settings → Sequences,
select Rulesets, and click New. Give it a name that describes its
purpose, such as “Outbound prospecting.”
2
Choose enrollment and email settings
Select the exclusions that should apply, decide whether people can enter
multiple sequences or re-enroll, and review task assignment and email
settings. The sections below explain these choices.Click Create Ruleset to save it. The ruleset appears in the list and is
available to select in your sequences.
3
Apply it to a sequence
Open the sequence’s Settings and select it under Sequence ruleset.
Expand the selected ruleset to review its settings, then click
Save changes and confirm the update.
Enrollment settings
Exclusions
Expand Exclusions and select the workspace exclusions that should apply. Checked exclusions are enabled for the ruleset. For example, enable your customer exclusion in a prospecting ruleset to keep customers out of those sequences. Sequence exclusions explains how to create exclusions, how they affect active enrollments, and where engagement policies apply.Simultaneous enrollment
Choose whether a person can be active in this sequence and other sequences at the same time:
Unify checks the ruleset of the sequence being added and every sequence the
person is already active in. The most restrictive setting applies. For example,
a new sequence set to Allowed cannot accept someone whose active sequence
uses Not allowed.
A person can have only one active enrollment in the same sequence.
Re-enrollment
Allow re-enrollment into sequences controls whether people can return after an earlier enrollment ends. Set the number of days they must wait after that enrollment ends; use zero to allow enrollment without a waiting period. The history check applies to finished enrollments with at least one completed step. Turn off re-enrollment to prevent those people from entering sequences that use this ruleset. Enable Allow re-enrollment into the same sequence when people should be able to repeat a sequence they previously progressed through. The waiting period still applies.Task assignment
Choose task recipients separately for automatic and manual enrollments:
Unify selects the task assignee when it creates the enrollment. These settings
let you keep follow-up with the sender or route it to someone responsible for
working the tasks. Set each task’s priority and due date in the
step editor.
Email settings
Email verification
Choose whether to send to catch-all, unverified, and role-based email addresses. Catch-all domains accept addresses that may not correspond to a real inbox; unverified addresses could not be validated; role-based addresses belong to shared functions such as support or sales. Unify checks the recipient before sending and stops an enrollment when the address type is disallowed. Invalid addresses are always blocked.Open tracking
Enable Track email opens to include an open-tracking pixel in sequence emails. Email clients can block or automatically load images, so an open does not necessarily mean the recipient read the message.Opt-out message
Write the message to append to sequence emails. Surround the linked words with<% and %>, for example: Click <%here%> to stop receiving these emails.
You can provide up to eight variants. Unify chooses randomly among the non-empty
variants when preparing the message.
