Overview

Sequence personalization lets you tailor outreach and task instructions for each person, company, and sender. Personalization can be used in automatic emails, manual email tasks, phone call notes, and action item notes. Use personalization when the content should change based on who the person is, where they work, why they matched a Play or Audience, or what the assigned user should do next.

Personalization tools

ToolUse it for
Template variablesInserting known values, such as a person’s name, company, title, or other fields available in Unify.
SnippetsReusing blocks of copy and defining fallback text when a variable is missing.
Smart snippetsGenerating short, recipient-specific copy with AI from a prompt and available data.
Manual editsLetting a user review and adjust a manual email before sending it.
Task notesGiving reps customized instructions for phone call and action item tasks.

Where personalization appears

Automatic email steps send personalized content automatically after Unify fills in the required values. Manual email steps create a task so a user can review and edit the personalized email before sending. Phone call and action item steps can also use personalized notes. These notes do not send to the recipient; they give the assigned user context and instructions for completing the task.

Missing data

Unify will not send an email with missing required personalization. If a template variable or snippet cannot be resolved and there is no fallback, the enrollment is blocked so a user can fix the message before it sends. Use snippet fallbacks and focused smart snippets to reduce blocked enrollments. For details, see Template variables.

Best practices

  • Use template variables for straightforward facts that already exist in Unify.
  • Use snippets for reusable copy that should stay consistent across Sequences.
  • Use smart snippets for small sections of copy that benefit from AI-generated context, such as an opening line or reason for outreach.
  • Add fallbacks whenever missing data should not block the enrollment.
  • Keep task notes specific enough that the assigned user knows what action to take.
