# Create a sequence

> Build an outreach sequence with emails and tasks.

export const ThemedImageFrame = ({lightSrc, darkSrc, alt, caption}) => <Frame caption={caption}>
    <div className="block w-full dark:hidden">
      <OptimizedImage className="w-full" src={lightSrc} alt={(alt ?? caption) ?? ""} />
    </div>

      <OptimizedImage className="w-full" src={darkSrc} alt={(alt ?? caption) ?? ""} />
    </div>
  </Frame>;

## Overview

Use the sequence builder to arrange emails and tasks into a repeatable outreach
plan. For example, you can send an introductory email, wait two days, and create
a task to follow up with a phone call.

You write the email content, choose the steps and delays, and publish the sequence
when it is ready. Each person you enroll then progresses through those steps.
Before enrolling people, you will also need a
[sending mailbox](/reference/deliverability/mailbox-configuration).

## Build your sequence

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create and name the sequence">
    Open [**Sequences**](https://app.unifygtm.com/dashboard/sequences) and click
    **New sequence**. Click the pencil beside the sequence name and give it a
    name that helps your team identify its audience or purpose.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the first email">
    Select the automatic email step and enter a subject and message. Use
    [template variables](/reference/sequences/personalization/template-variables)
    for details that change for each recipient, such as their name or company.

    Unify sends automatic emails according to the sequence's send schedule. If
    you want a rep to review and send the message, click
    **Change step type** and choose **Manual email**.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Add steps and delays">
    Click **+** beneath a step to add another email, phone call, or action item.
    For task steps, set the priority and due date and add instructions for the
    person completing the task. See [step types](/reference/sequences/sequence-step-types)
    for the available options.

    To space out the steps, click **+** where you want a pause and choose
    **Add a delay**. Set how long to wait before the next step. For example,
    add a two-day delay between the introductory email and a phone call.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the sequence settings">
    Open **Settings** to review who can use the sequence and how it runs:

    * Sharing: Keep the sequence invite-only or share it with teammates who
      need access.
    * **Send Schedule:** Choose the days, hours, and time zone for sending
      emails. [Send schedules](/reference/sequences/send-schedules)
      work alongside the delays you add between steps.
    * **Sequence ruleset:** Select the shared settings your team uses for
      enrollment eligibility, exclusions, and task assignment. Expand the
      selected ruleset to review its settings. See
      [Sequence rulesets](/reference/sequences/rulesets) to create or update one.

    If you change these settings, click **Save changes**.

    Review the email content, task instructions, and delays in the editor. Resolve
    any issues shown by **Fix to publish**, then click **Publish** and confirm.

    you to [enroll people](/reference/sequences/enrollments).
