## Overview

<PlanAvailability plans="Business" />

The power dialer builds a queue from phone-call tasks or a list of people and
calls one person at a time. Review each person's details, make the call, and log its
outcome before moving on. Automatic dialing can start the next call after a
preview period, giving you time to prepare between conversations.

Before starting, [set up the dialer](/reference/dialer/setup) and check that you
have an assigned number and microphone access. A workspace administrator must
activate the dialer before reps can use it.

## Prepare a calling session

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose who to call">
    <Tabs>
      <Tab title="From tasks">
        Open [**Tasks**](https://app.unifygtm.com/dashboard/tasks) and filter the
        list to the work you want to do. Click **Power dial** to build a queue from
        the matching phone-call tasks. To work through a smaller group, select
        those tasks first and use the power-dial action for the selection.
      </Tab>

      <Tab title="From a list">
        Open a person list and select the people you want to call. Click
        **Start call session** in the selection toolbar to build your queue.
      </Tab>
    </Tabs>

    If Unify offers to enrich missing phone numbers, review the number of
    people and credit cost before proceeding. You can skip enrichment and
    continue with the available numbers.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the queue">
    The session opens with the first person ready for preview. Review the
    person's details and recent activity, along with any task notes. The queue on the left
    shows the people in your session.

    <ThemedImageFrame lightSrc="/images/reference/dialer/power-dialer-queue-light.png" darkSrc="/images/reference/dialer/power-dialer-queue-dark.png" alt="A power-dialer session with the person queue, task notes, recent activity, and Start control." />
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose how calls start">
    Open **Settings** to review automatic dialing, preview time, and the number
    of phone numbers to try for each person. Changes save as you make them.

    With **Start calls automatically** on, the dialer calls when the preview
    countdown ends. Turn it off if you want to start each call yourself.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start the session">
    Click **Start**. If automatic dialing is off, click **Call** when you are
    ready. Review any calling warnings before proceeding.

    During a call, use the controls to manage audio, open the keypad, or end
    the call. See [Making calls](/reference/dialer/making-calls#during-a-call)
    for individual call controls and recording.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Set the pace

Use the session settings to control how much time you have between calls and
which numbers the dialer tries.

<ThemedImageFrame lightSrc="/images/reference/dialer/power-dialer-light.png" darkSrc="/images/reference/dialer/power-dialer-dark.png" alt="Power-dialer settings for automatic calls, voicemail handling, preview time, ring timeout, and phone-number selection." />

| Setting | Effect |
| - | - |
| Start calls automatically | Dials when the preview countdown ends. |
| Hang up on voicemail | Ends a call automatically when voicemail is detected. |
| Preview time | Sets how long you have to review the person before automatic dialing. |
| Ring timeout | Cancels an unanswered call after the selected ringing time. |
| Phone number attempts | Limits how many available numbers the session tries for each person. |
| Phone number types | Chooses which types of numbers the dialer can use, such as mobile or work numbers. |

Pause the countdown when you need more time to prepare. You can also skip a
person to move to the next entry. When calling from tasks, skipping someone
leaves their task open.

## Log results and move on

After a conversation, choose a [call disposition](/reference/dialer/call-dispositions)
and add notes. Review any task-completion or sequence-enrollment choice before
saving. If you request a follow-up task, finish its form before continuing.

Depending on your settings and the person's remaining numbers, the next action
can be **Next Number** or **Next person**. The session tracks dials, connects,
and meetings booked as you work through the queue.

## Finish the session

Click **End session** when you are finished. If people remain in the queue,
Unify asks you to confirm. End any active call and log its outcome first.

The session recap shows your duration, dials, connects, connect rate, and
meetings booked. Click **Finish** to return to the call log, where you can
review individual calls and their notes.
