# Call dispositions

> Define the outcomes your team uses when logging calls.

## Overview

A call disposition describes the result of a call, such as reaching voicemail,
booking a meeting, or speaking with someone who is not interested. Reps select a
disposition when they log a call. A shared set of outcomes helps the team record
results consistently and understand its calling activity.

Unify provides standard dispositions. Workspace administrators can add custom
ones for outcomes their team wants to distinguish, such as a prospect who is
interested but plans to evaluate next quarter.

## Outcome groups

Dispositions are organized into two groups:

* **Not connected:** Attempts that did not reach the prospect, such as no answer,
  voicemail, or a gatekeeper.
* **Connected:** Calls that reached the prospect. These outcomes give the rep the
  option to end a sequence enrollment when logging the call.

Each connected disposition also has a category describing how far the call
progressed:

| Category | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Connect | You reached someone, but the call did not progress to a conversation. |
| Conversation | You had a conversation without booking a meeting. |
| Meeting Booked | You booked a meeting during the call. |

Choose the category that matches the outcome. For example, a “Timing mismatch”
disposition for a conversation about next quarter belongs in the Conversation
category.

These categories determine the connect, conversation, and meeting totals in
[Call analytics](/reference/insights/call-analytics).

## Add a custom disposition

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open call dispositions">
    Open [**Call dispositions**](https://app.unifygtm.com/dashboard/settings/features/dialer?tab=Call+dispositions)
    in the dialer settings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a group and describe the outcome">
    Click **Add** in the appropriate group. Enter a name and a description that
    explains when reps should use it. Choose an icon and color to help reps
    recognize the outcome.

    For a connected outcome, choose its category. Use distinct names so reps can
    tell similar outcomes apart.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the disposition">
    Click **Create**. The new disposition appears in the group's list and is
    available when logging calls.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Maintain your team's outcomes

To update a custom disposition, click its edit icon, change its details, and
click **Save**. You can also delete a custom disposition that your team no longer
uses. Existing calls retain their saved disposition.

<ThemedImageFrame lightSrc="/images/reference/dialer/call-dispositions-light.png" darkSrc="/images/reference/dialer/call-dispositions-dark.png" alt="Call disposition settings with a custom Timing mismatch outcome in the Conversation category." />

Drag a disposition's handle to change its position within its group. Put common
outcomes where reps can find them quickly. Standard dispositions can be
reordered. Their names and behavior are fixed. Each group supports up to 15
standard and custom dispositions combined.

## Outcomes that update a person

Two standard dispositions also change the person's calling eligibility:

* **Bad number** marks the dialed number as invalid.
* **Do not call** opts the person out of future calls.
